Measuring the effectiveness of your list growth strategies is crucial for continuous improvement in your email marketing efforts. Here are some key metrics to use together to track your results against your business goals.

For example, if your business goal is to increase sales, then:
  • List growth rate: Monitor the percentage increase in your email list size over time and check if your new subscribers are becoming purchasers and if so, how long is it taking them to make a purchase.
  • Signup source: Identify where your new subscribers are coming from (website, social media, etc.) and optimize your budget for the source that provides the subscribers that are most likely to make a purchase in a specific time frame (30, 60, or 90 days, depending on your type of product).
  • Lead magnet conversion rate: Track the percentage of visitors who download your lead magnet in exchange for their email address and who act further to make a purchase.
  • Signup form conversion rate: See how many visitors fill out your signup form after seeing your call to action and check to see how they convert beyond whatever initial offer the pop up gave them.
  • Engagement metrics: Monitor open rates, click-through rates, bounce rates and unsubscribe rates to gauge subscriber engagement and to keep your list clean.
By analyzing these metrics, you can refine your strategy and optimize your campaigns for better results geared toward a specific business goal.
